Redemption Camp, now widely known as Redemption City is located along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria. Administratively, it falls under Obafemi Owode Local Government Area (LGA) of Ogun State is the global headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and one of the most remarkable religious cities in Nigeria. It was founded in 1983 by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye on a then remote, snake infested stretch of land off the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. What started as a modest prayer camp with basic dormitories has since grown into a vast, well planned urban community covering more than 2,500 hectares.

Today, Redemption City functions as a self sustaining city, with over 200,000 residents and infrastructure that includes housing estates, schools, hospitals, supermarkets, banks, a police station, power plant, and an internal road network. Spiritually, it is the heartbeat of RCCG, hosting massive events such as the Holy Ghost Congress, which attracts hundreds of thousands of worshippers annually. At its center is the Old Arena auditorium, while a much larger facility known as The Arena a 3 km by 3 km auditorium is under development, projected to accommodate millions.

Beyond its religious role, Redemption City symbolizes faith driven urban transformation, offering uninterrupted electricity, security, and amenities that make it stand out from surrounding areas. It is not just a worship ground but a thriving city where spirituality, community, and modern living converge.

    Lifestyle in Redemption City

Life in Redemption City is built around spiritual discipline, community values, and a constant atmosphere of worship. Residents and visitors are encouraged to live according to Christian principles, which makes the city feel different from many other urban areas in Nigeria. Alcohol, smoking, and nightlife entertainment are not part of the environment, as the focus is on maintaining holiness and peace. Dress codes lean toward modesty, especially during church services and events, reflecting the culture of reverence in the city.

    Youth Spiritual Development

One of the strongest pillars of Redemption City is its commitment to raising the next generation in a godly way. The city provides a nurturing environment where children and youth are not only educated academically but also groomed spiritually. From an early age, children are introduced to Bible teachings, worship, and fellowship through dedicated children’s churches, schools, and special programs designed for them. They participate in Sunday school, choir practice, and recreational activities that are built on Christian values.

For teenagers and young adults, there are vibrant fellowships such as the RCCG Youth and Young Adults Fellowship (YAYA), which focuses on leadership training, evangelism, and skill development while keeping Christ at the center. Annual camps and conferences also give youths the chance to deepen their faith, discover their talents, and network with other like-minded Christians. In addition, workshops, seminars, and mentorship programs prepare them for future roles both in ministry and society.

    Holy Ghost Service

The Holy Ghost Service is a monthly all night worship program organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at Redemption City. It began in March 1986, when God instructed Pastor E. A. Adeboye, the General Overseer, to hold a special program on the first Friday of every month. Since then, it has become one of the most consistent and spiritually impactful gatherings in Nigeria and across the world.

Each Holy Ghost Service typically features hours of praise and worship, prayer, Bible teaching, testimonies, and prophetic declarations. The service often starts in the evening and runs through the night, creating an atmosphere where believers can seek God’s presence without distraction. Over the years, it has drawn hundreds of thousands of worshippers to Redemption City, while millions more join via television, radio, and online broadcasts globally.

The themes of the Holy Ghost Service change every month, addressing different aspects of Christian life such as faith, deliverance, breakthrough, family, healing, and spiritual growth.
