Satellite Town; Location, Area Guide, Leisure and Shopping, Schools, Apartments and Properties
Satellite Town is a popular residential and commercial community located in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State. Originally developed in the 1960s and 1970s by the Federal Government to provide housing for workers in the nearby industries and ports, the area has since grown into a bustling neighborhood. It is strategically positioned along the Lagos Badagry Expressway, making it a gateway to Festac Town, Mile 2, and further down to Ojo and Badagry.
The town is characterized by a mix of government built estates, private houses, and newer developments. While parts of Satellite Town still carry traces of its older structures, there are many modern duplexes, apartment blocks, and gated estates springing up, making it attractive for middle class families and property investors.
Satellite Town is well connected by major roads such as the Lagos Badagry Expressway and has easy access to Festac Town, Apapa, Mile 2, and the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex. Public transportation is readily available through buses, tricycles (keke), and motorcycles, making movement within and outside the community convenient.
Area Guide: Locating Satelite Town
Satellite Town can be accessed from different parts of Lagos because of its strategic position along the Lagos Badagry Expressway. From Lagos Island areas such as CMS, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, and Lekki, drivers usually connect through Eko Bridge or Third Mainland Bridge toward Apapa or Mile 2, then continue on the expressway past Volks, Alakija, and the Trade Fair Complex before reaching Satellite Town. Those coming from Apapa also pass through Mile 2 and join the same expressway. From Festac Town, the journey is much shorter, as inner routes from 1st Avenue, 2nd Avenue, or 7th Avenue link directly to Alakija and onward to Satellite. Travelers from Ojo and Badagry follow the expressway inward, passing Trade Fair and Alakija before arriving at Satellite, while those from Ikeja, Surulere, Yaba, and other mainland districts usually connect through the Oshodi Apapa Expressway to Mile 2 and then head toward Badagry. Even commuters from farther areas like Okokomaiko, Agbara, or near the Seme border use the Lagos Badagry Expressway, where Satellite Town comes up before Mile 2 when heading inward.
Leisure and Shopping
Satellite Town offers a mix of leisure and shopping options that cater to both residents and visitors. The area is home to several neighborhood markets such as the Satellite Town Market and nearby Alakija Market, where fresh food items, groceries, and household essentials are sold at affordable prices. For larger shopping needs, residents often visit the Trade Fair Complex or Aspamda Plaza, both just a short drive away and well known for wholesale and retail goods. Leisure in Satellite Town is mostly community driven, with local relaxation spots, lounges, and eateries where people gather after work or on weekends.
Families also enjoy nearby recreational centers, as the proximity to Festac Town provides access to malls, cinemas, and more vibrant entertainment spots. This balance of community markets, wholesale shopping hubs, and casual relaxation spots makes Satellite Town a practical and lively place for daily living.
