Crayon Biography; Background, Career Path, Family, Properties & Networth, List of Music

Crayon, whose real name is Charles Chibueze Chukwu, is a fast rising Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter born on July 8, 1997, in Orile Iganmu, Surulere, Lagos State. He hails from Ebonyi State but grew up in Ojo, Lagos, where he spent most of his early life.

His mother, Evelyn Chukwu, who passed away on July 4, 2025, was a hardworking entrepreneur who sold fruits for over two decades to support the family until she was able to retire following his success. His father, Mr. Chukwu, is a businessman who once ran a CD shop, a background that played a key role in shaping Crayon’s early passion for music.

    How his music journey began

Crayon’s music journey began from a very young age, shaped by his environment and exposure to music at home. Growing up in Lagos, he was surrounded by different sounds, largely influenced by his father who sold music CDs and constantly played songs from artists like Wizkid, P-Square, and Michael Jackson. This early exposure naturally built his love for music, and he began singing frequently as a child, even while doing daily chores.

As he grew older, Crayon joined his church choir and became known in school for his entertainment skills, showing early signs of star potential. However, after struggling with repeated university admission attempts, he made a bold decision to fully focus on music. Around 2016, he started recording songs independently without a manager, funding or label support, even going as far as distributing his music to radio stations himself just to gain recognition.

His breakthrough came when one of his songs received radio play, which eventually caught the attention of producer Baby Fresh. This moment changed everything, leading to his introduction to Don Jazzy and his eventual signing to Mavin Records in 2019. From that point, his journey transitioned from struggle to mainstream success, marking the true beginning of his professional music career.
